Supporting Women for Over 40 Years
The Womens Centre is a feminist, community-based not-for-profit organisation supporting women and children across Far North Queensland.
We provide free, confidential support, information and referrals for women experiencing domestic and family violence, housing challenges and other difficult circumstances.
Whether you need someone to talk to, practical support, safety planning or help understanding your options, we are here to listen and support you without judgement.

Our Story
From a Small Idea to a Trusted Community Service
1983
A group of local women recognised the need for a dedicated information and referral service for women in Far North Queensland.
1984
The Centre officially opened, providing support, information and referrals from a small shopfront in Rusty's Bazaar.
1986
The Womens Centre became an incorporated association, securing its future as an independent community organisation.
Today
With offices in Cairns and Atherton, the Womens Centre continues to provide support services that help women navigate housing, domestic and family violence, child protection and other challenges.
